A family workshop for discovering the stories hidden within everyday things.
Can a key become a bird? How many creatures might live inside a seashell? Could that spoon be a brilliant bachata dancer? Why is that log weeping beneath the moon’s shadow?
On a large shelf in his studio, Joan Miró treasured his own small yet remarkable collection: stones, branches, animals, ceramics, toys and newspaper clippings. Humble, unassuming objects that, through his attentive gaze, became precious relics. They gradually filled his studio and, at times, became the seeds of his artworks. From object to artwork, from object to character, there is an invisible thread that every artist learns to weave. Alexander Calder also knew how to listen to—and reveal—the secret life of objects when he transformed a few lengths of wire and a pile of fabric scraps into the timeless characters of his Cirque Calder, a travelling miniature universe that journeyed with him from Paris to Mont-roig, from Barcelona to New York.
Inspired by these two artists and by the tradition of object theatre, this family workshop invites you to look at everyday life with fresh eyes. From a collection of objects of many different shapes, materials and origins, each participant will choose a single object and explore the many lives it might one day live through observation, play and imagination. Together we will describe, draw, name, dismantle and transform objects until we uncover the unique universe each one quietly holds within.
At the end of the journey, a stage awaits us. Flying above The Globe, William Shakespeare’s theatre, was a flag bearing the Latin inscription Totus mundus agit histrionem — “All the world’s a stage.” On Saturday mornings at Can Prunera, we will trust that Shakespeare was right: that every object inhabiting this world, this museum and this room is patiently waiting for its moment to step into the spotlight.
The workshop takes place in small groups led by specialist workshop leaders. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
The schedule has been designed so that parking is not a problem. You can park in either the Cetre Parking or the road-side car park and walk for 10 minutes to the Museum.
