The art nouveau house celebrates its anniversary as a pioneering center for art, creativity, and thought in Sóller
A lot can happen in a year. On March 8th 2025, the doors of this modernist house reopened. A year later, those same doors have welcomed thousands of curious visitors, artists, musicians, children, parents, grandparents, schools, teachers, colleges, high schools… And the list goes on. If life is a dream, Can Prunera is the rational realization that sometimes dreams do come true. Dream and life will provide, as Shakespeare, Calderón, and Cervantes remind us.
In 1999, a film was released that went straight into eternity: Ridley Scott’s Gladiator. We would like to rescue an almost Homeric phrase from that unforgettable film that fits with the feeling we experience inside the museum: There was a dream called Rome. It could only be whispered. Anything louder than a whisper could make it vanish… it was so fragile.
From fragility comes strength. And from there, the achievement of dreams. Art is time and will, as the ceramist and sculptor Lluís Castaldo reminds us. Time to gestate and will to create. And never give up trying. Can Prunera began its life as a house: now it is a home.
A home where the light of art continues to be a beacon for weary travelers who want to heal their souls by contemplating paintings that are time and memory. A garden of sculptures where you can toast to the simple fact of being alive. An oasis against noise, a castle against misery.
Let’s continue celebrating birthdays together.
Thank you for making this possible.
The doors will always remain open.
