VICTORIA CAMPS
Trust, cooperate, coexist
Victoria Camps (Barcelona, 1941) is one of the most influential thinkers of the late 20th and 21st centuries. Professor Emeritus of Moral and Political Philosophy at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), the Catalan scholar has an extensive body of work, including Virtudes públicas (Public Virtues, 1990), El siglo de las mujeres (The Century of Women, 1998), El gobierno de las emociones (The Government of Emotions, 2012), and Breve historia de la ética (A Brief History of Ethics, 2013). Now, in her new book, La sociedad de la desconfianza (The Society of Distrust), she reviews the major mistakes we are making as a society and invites us, always from a critical perspective, to rethink why we have reached this point and how we can change course. One thing is clear to her: the concept of freedom has been perverted by overdeveloping it, and we have forgotten to cooperate as individuals living together in society.
The writer and philosopher, a leading figure in the field of ethics, will talk to Francisco de Asis Maura García about individualism, detachment from the common good, and the concept of freedom in our society.
